Design on a Budget: Bathroom

Hey best friends, forgive the delay on this blog, I’ve recently taken on a new private label of window treatments for my clients. Maybe you’ve heard of Smith&Noble?! I’m super excited to add this offering to my besties and I’ll tell you all about them later. For today, let’s talk about bathrooms!

Whether it’s your powder room or your primary bathroom, there are some pretty simple updates you can do to make your space look new! Remodeling a bathroom can be costly and time-consuming, and frankly extremely inconvenient if more than one person lives in your home. If you must take on a big project, please call me. I will happily help guide you down the path to a new bathroom. However, if you’re just looking to refresh your bathroom, here’s some tips from Your Design BFF.

Just like in your kitchen, your vanity cabinetry is probably in good shape. You can easily paint the outside and make it look brand new. Refer back to my kitchen blog for great suggestions on cabinet paint and hardware!

Replacing your vanity is not a huge cost, there are lots of options in hardware stores and online especially if you’re just talking about a single vanity. Here’s some of my favorites on Amazon. (This post includes affiliate links.)

Amazon: Voohek 24" Floating Vanity (great for a powder or other small bathroom in a couple finishes!)

What about your countertop? Well, you could certainly refinish it like I suggested in my blog on Kitchens. Here’s a link to that product, but replacing a vanity countertop can also be very inexpensive. Let's work together to find a solution for you, such as a remnant from a local granite yard!

Plumbing fixtures and accessories are easy ways to update your entire bathroom with a new look. Brass and matte black are very on trend right now but if you don’t consider yourself trendy and you just want a classic update, I would recommend stainless steel or brushed nickel. I’ve got tons of options for you pinned in my Bathroom Pinterest page.

Also check out the other accessories I've pinned there! Mirrors and lighting are the least expensive and highest impact update for your bathroom. You can easily swap out a light fixture and a mirror and change the whole room. Also, like I’ve mentioned before, get good bulbs for your light fixtures make sure you like the way you look in the mirror with the lighting. There’s nothing worse than bad lighting at your bathroom mirror.

Every bathroom needs storage, not every bathroom has room for storage. Your biggest area of real estate is going to be over the toilet. Please do not use one of these premade toilet shelves. They are extremely tacky and we can do much better! Even just floating shelves are a vast improvement from a Design perspective! Here’s a couple that I really love in bathrooms.

Also, these rolling carts are great for small spaces like next to your toilet. I have a tiny space in my bathroom that was all cluttered with cleaning supplies and my plunger and my kids potty seat before I discovered this.

Hopefully after considering this list of updates, you’ve got a plan for a DIY bathroom refresh. Still overwhelmed? Hit me up, I’m here to help.

Love,

Katie
